If I'm the one put in charge of making the mashed potatoes, this is my classic recipe; perfect for that holiday meal.
Homemade Mashed Potatoes
Ingredients
1 container of Plainville Farms Turkey Gravy®
2 pounds potatoes, peeled knots removed, and diced into 1-inch cubes
1 ½ tablespoons kosher salt
5 tablespoons unsalted butter (3 diced, 2 sliced)
1/2 cup sour cream
1/2 cup whole milk, hot
1 1/2 teaspoon dijon mustard
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Finely chopped parsley, for garnish
Instructions
1. Place potatoes in a large pot with 1 tablespoon of kosher salt (make sure it’s not table salt) and enough cold water to cover the potatoes by 1-inch. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to a gentle simmer until potatoes are fork tender; about 8 minutes. Drain the potatoes in a colander and return them to the pot.
2. Add 3 tablespoons of diced butter; stir until combined and melted. Then add your sour cream, whole milk, mustard, pepper, and remaining ½ tablespoon salt.
3. Mash potatoes with a potato masher or a mixer until your desired consistency.
4. Transfer hot mashed potatoes to a serving bowl and top them with the 2 slices of remaining butter, finely chopped parsley. Top off your Homemade Mashed Potatoes with delicious Plainville Turkey Gravy.
